Rape-accused Lingayat seer detained by police in Karnataka

Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru, a well-known Lingayat mut seer was arrested on Monday, after he was arrested for assaulting sexually children in Karnataka.

Seer Amir, also the head of the famous Murugha mutt of Karnataka’s Chitradurga was arrested from the Haveri district. The seer is suspected of assaulting girls students in the school managed by the Mutt.

The Mysuru city police have filed an FIR against Shivamurthy Sharanaru, following a complaint made for the benefit of two minors. The accused has been arrested in accordance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Two girls who were studying at the school that is run by the mutt, reached out to ‘Odanadi Samsthe’, a non-governmental organization located in Mysuru which focuses on the rehabilitation, rescue and empowerment of sexually exploited children and women. After sharing their experiences and their experiences, the issue was reported to the attention of the district’s child welfare committee.

Alongside the seer The FIR has been registered against four other individuals including the warden of the institution.

According to the complaint, the girls, aged 15 and 16, who were staying at the hostel under the Murugha Mutt, were sexually abused for over three-and-a-half-years.
